Citations and Bibliography ribbon--HELP

I am trying to add a citation to an Office 2007 word document but the
citations and bibliography tab is grayed out except for the insert Citation
with the blue check..it is selectable. In the style drop down box a gray
“missing†is visible.

Since you don't specify otherwise I'm assuming that you're attempting to do
this in Word 2007 but you've posted to the group for Mac Word. The Citations
feature work a bit differently, so you'd do best to ask in a PC Word group:
