I am installing a full version (not upgrade) copy of Office Pro 2007 on a PC
that used to have Office XP Pro and Office Connector. Before instaling 2007
I uninstalled Office XP and Office Connector using add/remove programs. I
deleted all pst files. The Outlook folder in Program Files was empty. I
wanted a clean install of 2007.
Word, Excel, etc all work fine. The first execution of Outlook runs thru
the "Configuring Outlook" script, starting with "Migrating Account Settings".
This is where the install looks for msncon.dll (error message "Cannot start
MS Office Outlook . . . MAPI was unable to load msncon.dll . . ."). A common
answer in the forum is to install the latest version of Outlook Connector. I
don't want Outlook Connector but the clean install thinks that I do. A scan
of the registry finds references to msncon in
HKEY_CURRENT_Users\..WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook and also in HKEY_USERS\..Profiles\Outlook. This
is old, leftover information from Outlook XP and Office Connector.
Is there a way to purge all the old Outlook / Connector stuff so I can
actually do a clean install?
