Cleaning-up emails before Forwarding problem.

XP Pro SP3 - IE8 - MS Office 2003 - all updates installed.

Many of the emails I receive from some friends have been forwarded
multiple times. As a result, there are a series of email Headers,
complete with all of the email addresses of previous recipients, in
the body of the email.

Not wanting to continue broadcasting these email addresses, and to
make the email easier to read, I have always 'cleaned-up' these emails
before I forward them to my other friends.

In the past (prior to upgrading to SP3 and IE8), I would select
'Forward' and the result would be a copy of the received email with
multiple bold blue lines of various lengths down the left side of the
email, indicating the content of each of the multiple forwardings. As
I moved the cursor down and across this email copy, the cursor would
periodically change to crossed arrows as it moved over the border of
each of the 'nested' iterations of the email. When I found the inner-
most iteration (the original email), I could click on that border and
the previously invisible box would be outlined with little squares and
lines. If it contained everything I wanted to forward, I would select
'Cut' to remove and save the content of that box. I would then use
the cursor to progressively find, reveal and delete the remaining
boxes. I would also find boxes that had no content, so I would delete
them as well. When the body of the email to be forwarded was clean, I
would select Paste and the original email's content would be displayed
without all the header and other clutter from the multiple forwards.

However, since upgrading to SP3 and IE8, I can no longer find the
invisible borders of those 'nested' emails, using the cursor. The
borders of pictures show up, but not the borders of those 'invisible
boxes'. I called them 'text boxes' in another email, but that was
probably wrong, since I did not get a suggestion on how to get this
function back.

I've tried adjusting multiple Outlook settings, but none helped. Is
it possible that some Security or other settings in IE8 could be
causing this?

Any ideas on what changed and how I can change it back so I can 'clean-
up' emails with my original method?

Note: I use Outlook as the editor for emails, not MS Word. I've tried
MS Word as the editor, and it partially shows these boxes (not as well
as Outlook did), but using Word as the editor is slow and cumbersome,
compared to Outlook doing the editing.

Would appreciate any help, suggestions or pointers to resolve this.
Thanks.

Perhaps I am the only one having this problem, OR, I used the wrong
terminology to describe the problem.

Based on what I read in an old question in this group, I believe the
correct term for the multiple 'invisible' items I am trying to find in
the body of an email being forwarded, is - 'textarea'. I am sweeping
the content area of the email with the cursor, looking for the edge of
the 'textarea' box for each of the multiple forwards, as well as other
blank textarea boxes. I have no idea what they had in them, so I have
been deleting them. The cursor used to change to crossed arrows when
it crossed the edge of any of these textareas. Since this no longer
happens, I can not click on the edge and have the border of the
textarea outlined with small boxes.

Also, based on a response in that other question (not sufficient
detail to investigate), I suspect the loss of this function may have
something to do with a security settings in IE. I have IE security
set to high.

Anyone have any ideas now?
