Cleanup Installer Killed EXCEL!

I was told to get the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility in order to make the
installer quit running whenever I start Excel. I did. Now Excel won't
start at all! Says I need to reinstall. All the files appear to be there,
however.

I suppose it was just a change of a few registry keys. You know, I'd like
to have those registry keys back! And I'd like to kill off the registry key
that makes the installer run.

Is that possible?

I will do that. But I'm kind of surprised -- whoever told me to use the
installer cleaner to fix the installer running messages should have warned
me to have my CD handy and have the time to do the reinstall.

Back again to my other question -- can't it be fixed by modifying reg keys?
To stop the installer from running whenever the program is opened?

Hi Fishy,

Generally, no, as the reason the installer runs is often because it sees the installation of the Office software as damaged and its
trying to repair it (sometimes what it can fix doesn't get to what's causing the problem, which can be caused by installing other
software or add-ins or using 'helpful' cleanup products).

If you're running multiple versions of Office apps you'll also see the installer run frequently when the installer switches pointers
and settings from one version being active to the other.

Hi Fishy

It was me that told you to do it. But if you bothered to read the instructions beforehand you would have seen the following on the page of the Utility

Warning - All items selected will be removed from the Windows Installer
database. In order for the items to work properly, you must individually
re-install all items selected. Select OK to continue removing product,
Cancel to abort.
