Clearing the NK2 file for Autocompletion and Autoresolution

Hi,

We have a global list of contacts in our outlook databaes for our company.
We have had a lot of problems getting the correct information in it. For
instance, we had things such as fax number in there as well. What has
happened is that a user will begin typing in a contact and either
autocompletion or autoresolution will fill in eroneous information such as
the John Doe - Fax rather than the John Doe's e-mail. We have since cleared
out all of the problem contacts. What we want to do is to clear the NK2 file
and start over. Is there a way to clear this file?

Thanks,

Delete it with Outlook closed or manually by highlighting the entries as
they pop up.

Noel,

I have outlook 2003. I tried searching for the nk2 file but it came up with
no results. I did *.kn2 as a search of my entire hard drive but no files
were found.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks,

That's because you didn't include searching hidden files and folders. Do
this: Start Windows Explorer and in the Address field, enter

%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook

and click Go. You'll see the NK2 file there.

Hi,

I actually did go into control panel and check the option for viewing hidden
files but canot find the nk2 file. I also took your advice and plugged the
path you gave me into Windows Explorer but still cannot fin the nk2 file for
this user. She has Windows XP and Office 2003. Inside the Microsoft\Outlook
folder where the nk2 file should be are four files. 1) Outlook which is an
Office Data File 2) Outlook which is an XML file 3) Outlook.srs and 4)
Outlprnt which is just described as File. Any idea why I don't have this NK2
file?

Thanks,

It should be named the same as her Outlook mail profile. I suspect it's the
"Outlook" that's an Outlook Data File. Enable viewing known file types (in
Explorer, click Tools>Folder Options>View and uncheck "Hide extensions for
known file types".
