Click on file icon, word opens but file doesn't

We are having a new problem with Word 2003. When you click on Word file icon
to open the file, instead of opening the file in Word as is usual, Word opens
but with a blank grey screen. To open the file, you have to File>Open and
then browse to the file.

Does anyone know why Word is doing this and how to fix it?

Sounds like the act of an over-active AV or a bad third party add-in. Have
you installed something new recently such as scanner, document management or
PDF utilities?

I checked for add-ins and .com add-ins, but nothing showed up. However, we
had installed an Office Live utility. I removed that utility, and Word seems
to be okay now. However, Word doesn't always exhibit the weird
behavior--sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. Will see how Word
functions over the next few days and let you know.
