clicked image auto-executes editing software

I pasted an image into Word that i'd created in Photoshop. Every time I
attempt to move the image or click it (ie to insert a caption) Photoshop is
auto-executed. I have been to Tools - Options - Edit and chosen Word as the
edit program to no avail.

The image was pasted as an Adobe Photshop image because every other paste
choice resulted in a poor, lossy look but "Photshop image" paste is crisp and
clear. This is proving to be extremely frustrating, why is Word is trying to
second-guess what I want to do?

How do I paste an image and prevent Word from linking it to the originating
program?

Hi Mel,

If you pasted as an 'object' then you've included the overhead that calls the original application for editing the item when you
double click it.

Try saving the graphic from Photoshop to disc and using

Insert=>Picture=>From File (From File if version prior to Word 2007)

Hi Bob,

thank you for your prompt reply and for providing me with a workable answer,
it is very much appreciated.

However you said, "... calls the original application for editing the item
when you double click it" conversely, this event is being called on a
single-click: even though my mouse option is set to Double-click to open an
item(single-click to select) perhaps that is a behaviour of my archaic
version: Word 2002?

nevertheless, your solution has resolved my problem :)
thanks again,
Mel

Might it be possible that the image in your doc was set as a hyperlink to
the original image file? That would cause the single-click launch of
Photoshop to open the file. (IIRC, hyperlinks needed only a click in 2002
rather than a Control+Click, but am not sure.)

Hi Bob,

thank you for your response. Hyperlinks in my version of 2002 are executed
via Ctrl+click, but mouse behaviours aside, the Bob with the curly hair ?:)
provided a good workable solution that I am very happy with (and I don't know
why I did not think of his solution myself).

thanks again for your service.
