Clicking on doc file wont load word

When I click on a doc file, Word2000 loads, requests a virus scan
(Norton) then just sits there with a gray screen. I have XP with all
the current updates. If I start word, load the same file,it comes up
normally, all OK.
If I click on an email word attachment, I get an error message,
Windows cannot find file..

Any Suggestions????
