Clicking on links in Excel...

I am using M$ Office 2004 and keep hyperlinks in spreadsheets from time
to time.

http websites, when clicked, open in Safari just fine, but when I try
to access secure httpS sites Excel:
- returns a "Unable to open https://website.com" Unable to locate
internet server or proxy server" (if not pw protected) or
- returns it's own login box (if pw protected). once the box is filled
out nothing happens.

Is this a known issue?

In the system prefs, under the Network pane, there is a separate tab for
proxies. https:// has a different entry to http://, make sure it is not
selected (or, if it needs an entry, that it is correct)
