Clicking "Tools" in MS Word 2003 Crashes Program

Every time I click "tools", the program stops responding and needs to shut
down. This happens every time, no matter if it's an existing or new document.
I am using Vista. I can add a new tool icon to the toolbar and access the
specific function that way but i can't access the menu by clicking on
"tools". I've run detect and repair several times... no change. Any
suggestions??
