Clicking Tools -> Options crashes OneNote 2007

On my boss's laptop, often clicking Tools -> Options will crash OneNote. If
it doesn't, it'll usually crash while looking at the various settings or
doing a backup. It sends a Watson error and restarts OneNote, and there's
nothing insightful in the system or application logs.

This is OneNote 2007 upgraded from 2003, fully patched on XP Pro SP2. He
accesses the same set of notebooks from this laptop and from his desktop,
with no crashing problems on the desktop at all. Both installs are
configured the same as far as I know, with only a few settings changed from
the installation defaults.

I found a couple of people with similar issues, but no solution. Someone
suggested Windows Firewall, and I did verify that OneNote is listed in the
firewall exceptions. I also did a repair from CP Add/Remove, which made no
difference.

Anyone have any suggestions for this?

We have seen this before and we are looking into solutions. We believe it
had to do with either:
1) Windows Media Center installs (this was the first repro we had of this)
2) If you have used NetMeeting
3) Some audio drive problem for microphones

These are all guesses and we are trying to find more infomration. Can you
please reply with your Watson bucket number? You can find it by reading

Thanks very much for saving me a bunch of troubleshooting : -)

The most recent bucket number is 463401819. He sends the watson every time
it happens, so I can get you more if you wish.

Unfortunately, the user has XP Pro SP2, so no MCE involvement. He does not
use NetMeeting or a microphone, although the laptop has a built in
microphone and may have drivers or whatever that were installed OEM (Dell).
The problem is not profile-specific. I created a new profile for myself and
let OneNote start with all defaults and new, blank notebooks, and it still
crashes when opening or navigating in Options. I can't get it to crash in
safe mode with networking, so I might be able to narrow it down to something
that runs only in normal mode. If I find anything, I'll let you know.
