Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

Since upgrading my Word to 2008 none of my clients can open the word documents I send because they have older versions of Word. One client attempted to download a converter to see if that would work but it did not. Anybody having the same problem? Anyone have some solutions??

Instead of saving as the default .docx document, save as a .doc.

I tried that and yet I'm still getting complaints from my clients that they cannot open it. Hmmmm...tx!

Hi Laurice - Let me guess... Your clients are on PCs, right? And you're
sending them email attachments.

The first issue to resolve is that they should not be double-clicking
attachments in the first place. They need to save the file locally first,
then open the saved copy. It's also a good idea to zip/stuff the file before
attaching: that helps protect the file from being hacked to bits by various
mail servers & helps force the recipients to save rather than open the
attachment.

Additionally, make sure your email software is set to send "Windows Friendly
Attachments" (Apple's Mail app) or that you have the encoding for
attachments set to MIME or Windows/Base64 (Entourage). If you're using a
different email program there is bound to be a similar setting.

If none of these suggestions helps, make sure you give complete details
about what the result of trying them *did* produce as well as additional
details about your version of OS X, type of Mac & how you're providing the
files to the clients. If it is email specify which program.

Why should they not double click attachments? Does that create some sort of problem with the attachement??

Thx!

Well, "Nobody" should double-click attachments, because that bypasses the
security protection on the computer, either PC or Mac.

Currently, there are fewer exploits "Made for Mac", so it will take you
longer (months instead of minutes...) to lose all your data and the contents
of your bank accounts, if you do this. But it's not safe :)

Later versions of PC email programs have been adjusted to "prevent" the user
from doing this. If they try, the result is exactly what you are reporting
:)

Hope this helps
