Clip Art Office 2000 to Office XP

Marco

Using Office 2000 I have downloaded many cliparts (736)
from the MS Web. They were stored in a folder
called "Media Catalog" somewhere down in my profile
folder. There is also a file called ARTGAL50.MMC which
probably is the clipart database.

I have copied all my cliparts to another PC running XP and
would like to merge these into the "Microsoft Clip
Organizer". All what I was able to do is copying the clips
but not the original keywords. These were replaced by the
name of the file and the original folder.

Is there a way to merge or otherwise link these clips AND
MAINTAIN the original keywords? All help is welcome.

Hi Marco,

At present their isn't a tool to migrate the categories
and keywords from MS Clip Gallery to MS Clip Organizer
other than to use the online edition at
http://office.microsoft.com/clipart

Hi,

Well, having spent an hour surfing the Web trying to find a similar tool,
for exactly the same problem (but with Office 2003 instead of XP) I'm at
least happy to see a definitive answer to this.

Has Microsoft published the file formats anywhere, so I could write a
conversion utility myself? Or do I have to reverse engineer the file formats
myself (ugh)?

The funny thing is, I've been readying this week about how open source is
making great inroads around the world in part so that your data isn't held
hostage by a vendor like Microsoft. This situation exactly illustrates the
wisdom of this. If the Clip Organiser was open source I could fix this
easily. Instead, the clip art I paid good money for is less easily
accessible. (I know I can do Insert -> Object -> Clip Gallery etc, but
that's not really a nice solution, is it?)

(Editorial: I'm just amazed at how Microsoft consistently strands customers
as they introduce new products and programs. Would it have been so hard to
migrate keywords from ClipGallery? I mean, really!)

Thanks for any pointers.
