Clip Art on network won't insert

W

We're running a network here in the classroom and instead
of loading the media disk on each hard drive, we've
loaded it on the server. However, the computers, when in
Office, look to the collections on the hard drive instead
of on the network. How can we get the clip art to come
from the media disk loaded on the server? The only clips
we can currently use have to be from the Internet.

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to install the Media Content CD to run from source
network share.

1> Copy the Content CD to the network share.
2> On the client machines, run the command:
msiexec /I \\yournetworkshare\cntcd3\cag.msi ADDSOURCE=ALL /qb

Substitute the appropriate path to cag.msi on the network, of course. The
setup runs pretty quickly.

This command...when run on the client PCs, copies the media cd catalog (keywords and
thumbnails) to the local machine (it's a relatively small file) and points
the "source" to the network share where the clips reside.

When I try this command line using our server name and
path, I get a "Incorrect command line parameters" then a
Windows Installer 2.0 copyright message.

Are the spaces in the message you sent the same in the
command line?

This is what I put for the command line: msiexec /I
\\Wilson-Server\Shared Folder\ClipArt\cntcd3\cag.msi
ADDSOURCE=ALL /gb

Do you see something I've missed here?

You'll need to quote the pathname, like this:

msiexec /I "\\Wilson-Server\Shared Folder\ClipArt\cntcd3\cag.msi"
ADDSOURCE=ALL /gb

I'm getting a message "This installation could not be
opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can
access it, or contact the application vendor to verfiy
that this is a valid Windows Installer package"

I noticed the file on our shared folder is cntcd1 instead
of cntcd3, so I tried the "run" inserting the cntcd1
instead...same message.

Any ideas?

Did you ensure that the CAG.MSI file exists on the network share and that
the client computer can get to it? What happens if you double-click on it?

I've ended up going to the server and just copying the
entire disk (including cag.msi) to the shared folder
instead of installing it on the shared folder. Once all
was copied and I logged on a to a machine as
administrator, I was able to get a "insert the Microsoft
media disk" box when I clicked on clipart. Once I
directed the "browse" to the shared folder, all seems to
work now. Regular users are able to use the clip art once
the administrator does this initial thing pointing to the
shared folder.

Does this seem ok? I mean, it's currently working, but I
have students come in here every day needing this stuff
and I want to make sure this is going to be stable.

Thanks for your help.
