clipart has white background

When I insert any clipart over any page background either just a cell color
or a background picture the art looks great until I save it, then it becomes
a fuull square with a white background instead of just the line art.
This is Microsofts clipart so it should be compatible.

The only work around I found so far is to copy the clip art into photoshop
and fill the background with the same color as the page layout, but it's to
much work.
How can I prevent the backgound from appearing after I save it.
Even in PREVIEW it's o.k, it's only when I go to save it.

Are they JPG images? You cannot have transparency in JPG images.

Are they GIF images? If so, then they have not been saved with transparency
enabled. You would have to open them in an image editor, and then export
them with index transparency enabled.

well that worked out nicely. Too bad Microsoft can't save you this extra step
of opening it up in a editor and then just resaving it.
