Clipart in Pub97

I bought a new PC last year with XP but am still using my old 97 Office,
Publisher etc. Can't get Publisher to see Clipart on my hard drive even
though I've installed it all, uninstalled, re-installed and it's all there
but it still looks for the CD. I've done what it says in Help but when I
right click on a clip to change the path I get a window headed Assert with
this error message -
File: undialog.cpp Line:1396
The only way to close this is choosing the Abort option which closes the
whole program. Is it corrupted or is there a conflict with XP? When I first
installed Pub on this PC I could get some images from the hard drive but not
others, now I can't get any.

This is a tough error. Use to be associated with ZoomText, or at least it is the
only reference I ever found that mentions the error.
I sent an inquiry to ZoomText, they did answer, but their answer was less than
helpful. The tech did say the error would come up for their users when ZoomText
was not running; it has to do with conflicts between the video card's display
driver and ZoomText's chaining driver.

Maybe a video driver upgrade could help??

Another poster with this problem reported:
"My investigation of this problem lead to a probable conflict with a file
called MotiveSB, which is part of my Sprint DSL connection.
Sprint DSL says you can safely remove the SPRINT Virtual Assistant program
to remove this file."

Oh dear - I've never heard of ZoomText or Sprint. Seems odd that it worked
better before I reinstalled the ClipArt. Until then it was seeing some clips
on the hard drive but not al, which is why I thought reinstalling might sort
it but it just made it worse. Been having a few problems with my older
software since getting XP - very weird - sbut I didn't really want to have to
upgrade. Thanks for trying anyway.

Just look at the ZoomText site as didn't know what it was. I did use the
accessibility options in Windows a while ago as was having eyesight problems.
Ok now and thought I'd gone back to where it was before but could this be
connected?

I simply don't know. I am thinking there is some program you have installed that
is conflicting with the Gallery. I have Publisher 97 installed on XP and it
works well. Maybe it is just the Gallery needs help. Right-click any image in
the catalog, click restore.
The Gallery has its own help files with troubleshooting suggestions, might be
worth a look.

Do you have the latest video driver for your graphics card?

This was a brand new computer last August so I imagine the drivers should be
OK and it's set for automatic updates. I don't have anything installed that
I didn't have on the old one, except that it's XP not 98. Can't right click
on an image because now it always produces that error message which then
closes the whole thing. Driving me crazy!! Tried everything in Help but it
always leads back to rightclicking the image. I still use MS Photoeditor
version 3.0 (part of Office 97 maybe) and that now produces a different
window from the Open command. It used to look like the ones in Word and
Excel but now it's like the Publisher one which is much less easy to
navigate. It was fine with 98. So maybe XP needs later versions.

Automatic updates will not install a graphics driver. Your computer may have
been new in August, that doesn't necessarily mean it has the newest drivers. Go
to the manufacturer's web site of your graphics/adapter card and look around for
an upgraded driver.

I, too, have a new computer, I installed 97 in safe mode because of the Acme
setup. Uninstall 97 and reinstall in safe mode, see if that cures your issue.

Microsoft has all the 97 help files in a downloadable HTML file.
