Cloning a recordset

I would like to run a query and based on that query I want the records from
the query to be copied to a new record's subform with the new main forms ID
number. This way I can change the information. If you need more detail see
below:

I would like my subform to copy information from a sub form's data when a
record on a drop down box is selected on the main form. I am an advanced
user so I know how to do most of the building process. I just got stumped
at the new information and auto poulate stuff. Is there a way to copy
information from a prior record when it is selected from a drop down menu?

For example:
When I select Upper Body from the mainform's dropdown menu. Then all of the
exercises that are setup with upper body are displayed with the newest dated
information (i.e. If I add more reps or weight on my last workout I want
that information to populate when I select the same workout next time.),
while still keeping the prior record with the old information. I need to
track changes and then run reports on progress.

Each workout can contain more than one exercise and multiple of the same
exercise, typically with different reps and weights. Each exercise can be
in more than one workout.
