close tasks to update duration extention

Hi,

My boss want me to prevent reporters from extending (or changing) task
duration.
is it possible? (like, maybe I can lock the duration field in the
project server so resource will be able to report progress but not
report duration changes)

working with MSP 2007

Hanni:

The only way to accomplish this with certainty is to report % Complete only
and do not collect hours or actual start and actual finish dates. This will
preserve your scheduling so that it completes exactly as planned in the
project file, and will have no relationship to reality so that your boss can
continue to live in his/her fantasy world. You can tell your boss, that in
the real world, durations change. When they change by mistake, you can fix
it, and when it represents reality, it provides the feedback you need to
manage your project.

thank you for your answer, BUT, can you please formulate (I hope I am
using the correct word. I mean to rewrite in diferrent words) it more

Essentially, you need to change your tracking method, but it won't be pretty
because any tasks that is already tracking using another method will
continue to do so until completion.
