Closing a master plan hangs on EPM 2003

I have a master plan with 12 sub-plans inserted as (read only). The master
plan and all sub-plans are saved on the project server 2003. After opening
the master plan, I am not able to close it again because MS Project hangs,
which forces me to terminate the process and perform the check-in process
manually through the project server web administration.

I noticed while MS project is trying to close the master plan a message
appears on the status line as "opening resglobal..." the message flashes
several times then the Project hangs and not responding.

I appreciate any help on this regard.
