Closing excel application without closing all workbooks at the sa.

Wanting to know if any one has any ideas on how to close the excel
application without closing all workbooks at the same time.
File>close is one option, or by closing the small x, but if you go file>exit
or close by X in right hand corner, and you have multiple workbooks open,
this closes all the workbooks and not just one at a time.
Microsoft Word functions like this, if you have 2 word documents open and
you close one by the X on the right hand side of the application this will
close one by one not the whole application.

Has anyone got any ideas, for users who are used to closing this by the x in
the right hand corner, and why excel functions like this?

hi,
word open a new instance of word everytime you open a word
file. it's like having word open 2 or more times
with excel, it opens all file within itself. don't know
why this is but microsoft designed it like that.
so in excel there will be 2 X's in the upper right corner.
The top X closes excel and all files. the smaller x under
the top X just closes the Active file and leave excel and
all other file open.
so to close just the active excel file, click the lower X
and not the Top X.

This can be achieved by opening a new excell aplication for each workbook.
