Closing MS Outlook automatically

I am using MS Outlook and another program to send out shipping notifications.
This process takes a while so I run it at the end of day. But since it is
left open there are back up issues. I have tried to use the Scheduled Tasks
but it does not work. Is there another way to close out a program after so
long?
