Coding Italics / Bolding into a String

L

Word 2007: There are times that I would much rather insert a code to toggle
bolding (or italics) in a lengthy string of text rather than having to break
up the string to do this.

Can this be done? How?

Hi LA Lawyer,

You can't modify the formatting of individual characters in a string, since a string has not formatting. So, you can continue as you
have been doing, or you can insert the whole string in one go, then modify the formatting afterwards (eg using Find/Replace).

Or, if you insert strings with *bold* and _italic_ parts, you can then use
"Format > AutoFormat" to do the formatting, if the corresponding AutoFormat
option is turned on (...all others can be off).
