"Collapsing" a Date Period in Timeline

In a timeline spanning two years, I have a 13-month
period with no events to track. There are two events to
the left of this period and currently nine events crammed
into a 3-month period to the right. Each event has a
great deal of text to display. I would like
to "collapse" this 13-month period without creating two
independent timelines. Thanks for your help.

In Visio 2003, create a timeline and add an expanded timeline to it. The
main timeline shows the full period with perhaps only start and finish
milestone. You can customize the expanded timeline to only show a portion
of the main timeline. This gives you a lot more room to put details on the
timeline. You can add multiple expanded timelines to a page, but pay
attention to where you drop them. Otherwise, you might get an expansion of
an expansion rather than a second expansion of the main timeline.
