Collate error on 6.5 database

Target database is on SQL Server 2000, running in version
6.5 compatability mode. In Access 2000, I can open tables
and views from an adp just fine. When I try to open
tables and views from an adp in Access 2002, I get and
error that says "ADO Error: Line 1: Syntax error
near 'COLLATE'". I've tried updating to MDAC 2.8. Same
results. Any ideas?
