collate selection in word and excel

We have an office printer that freezes, then resumes long
print jobs if the 'collate' option is selected in the
print popup box in excel or word xp, and also for the 2000
version.

Deselecting the collate option resolves this, but it comes
back with the box checked on the next print job. I cannot
find anywhere in office to set the collate option to be
permanently set off. Is there a registry entry that needs
to be modified?

You don't set printer defaults such as those in Office-- you do it in the
printer properties. Open Start--Control Panel--Printers and set the default
properties there.

That's what I initially thought. But if you compare the
print popup to that of, say, adobe, it does not have the
collate selection.

Also, I beleive the popup collate refers to queuing of the
print jobs, or something like that, and not collating in
the traditional 'finishing' sense (IE page 1 of all jobs
printed first, then page 2, etc.)

OK, gotcha, but isn't that setting available from one of the property pages
when the printer dialog comes up?
