Collateing tracking numbers

J

james

This seems a most difficult question i posted in general topical area...so i
repost in this form to try luck here.

I have made reciept books , 50 to each pack with tracking numbers..
now the problem i am have is that when i print 4 to 1 page, it does ok to set
each number in sequance, it seems... but if i print a pile of pages and it
comes time to cut that stack into 4 , i run into trouble.. then i realize the
numbers dont go in order in their own little stacks..that each number below
that is not the right number, so after i have to go and put them all in order
by hand ..thats crazy
must be a better way.

I'm sure you could do it with a sorted data file, check the Excel groups,
but your local paper merchant would have pre-numbered tickets, numbered on
the stub and ticket, in a variety of paper colors with the advantage of also
having a perorated stub.
http://www.ticketdoctor.com/products.html is local to Detroit metro area
Xpedx Paper &Graphics
For $20 USD it isn't worth messing with.
I'm just a consumer, no affiliation.

James, You were given advice, obviously we cannot explain the method plain
enough. My suggestion now would be for you to visit an Excel or Access group for
advice.

OK, thats why I have said in the PAST..that teaching or giving advice is
NOT for everyone..dont take it personal, thats just the truth, most people
dont have the skill to do it.
SO far I have NOT seen a reply to my last quiry to this same topic in
general questions
So again, dont take it personaly..if one doesnt know, then iTs best to be
honest about it, far as i am concered, instead of trying to pretend like we
do know and then not able to answer further questions and let it get to ya.

It was nice of ya to give me the link to that excel file, but unfortunatly
that person who made it also suffers from same inability to know how to
communicate something to other on a basic leval, and therefor causes further
work and time to figure it out.

That is exactly what he wants to do. In the Publisher general questions he was
given an answer that obviously is too complicated. It is the only way he can do
it in Publisher. If he does his project in Word it will be better for him.

I think I understand what you want to do. I get the impression that you want
them in order after you've cut them without having to manually sort them?

MAry... we JUST went over this.. something tells me you have not even opened
that excel file that you perscribed for me... because if it was simple, then
we wouldnt be contending over this issue now.. but i already stated there is
no documentation to that file, only footnotes that have NO relationship to
the issue iam after.

It gets hairy because you may cut them and stack them in a different order
than someone else. It *could* be done but it's not going to be something
that's automatic. I love Publisher but I agree with Mary that it's going to
be more easily accomplished in Word. You could merge the info, see the
entire page, rearrange to suit, print, cut, and stack. But let's set that
aside for now.

You'll going to have to figure out where each document needs to be and on
which sheet (Sht 1, top left; Sht 4, bottom right, etc). You're going to
have to work with some dummy pages and do some rearranging to get the master
list in the correct merging order. It's not a task I'd want to do. *Believe
me*, it'll be much faster to collate manually but it could be done. (Ask
yourself a question - Do you really have that much time to invest in this
project? Wouldn't you rather be spending time with your loved ones rather
than trying to figure this one out?)

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck.
