Collocated Project Server 2007, 100% CPU usage

Not sure exactly what happened, but our Project Server is maxing at 100% CPU
usage.

The process which are taking up all available CPU usage is:

Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Queue.exe
sqlservr.exe

I've rebooted the server, same results. I've looked in the Project Queue
and I don't see anything in there. There isn't anything in the "processing"
stage. If I kill off the SQL server process and restart the database, the
CPU goes down to acceptable levels and the PWA is responsive. However, the
queuing mechanism is completely shot. It doesn't process any jobs and just
queues up. I have to manually restart the "Microsoft Office Project Server
Queue Service". Then the CPU races back to 100%. There are (2) queue
process running, but only 1 of them is eating CPU time. The other one sits
at 0%

I've read the queue article from microsoft, but I just can't figure out how
to troubleshoot this issue. I have also disabled Active Directory Synchs,
as I thought this was my original cause.

Hi Chris, have the Q settings been changed within Server Settings. Worth
resetting these back to default for both Qs. There is a button that does
just that. Then worth a reboot. Please post the result.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply. I finally figured it out. The server appeared to be
processing something from a few days back. I had to play around with the
manage queue options to see the window from early March to now. As soon as I
saw it, I cancelled the Active Directory Sync. I have no idea why the
Active Directory synch takes so long and so much processing power. It
doesn't make sense to me.
