Color Code Key or Legend

Is it possible to create a key for the colors used in a workflow diagram? I'm
trying to use a legend, but it doesn't seem right and I can't seem to change
the colors.

I have a workflow chart that includes many boxes (5 colors though...), I
need to make a key that shows what each of the 5 colors means.

How are you coloring the shapes?

I'm a total beginner, so I could be coloring the shapes the wrong way, but
I'm just doing a fill. I don't have tne newest version.

Visio 2003 Professional includes an addin, Color By Value, that colors
shapes according to the different values in a selected custom property ...
and creates a legend.
There is no ther easy way of creating a legend for color fill legends.
So, if you are using Visio 2003 Pro, then you should add a custom property
to your workflow shapes, then use Color By Value to create fill and a legend
from the the different values.
