There were a couple posts back in October titled "How to turn off gradient
fills in menu bars..." that I think were about the same issue I'm having, but
there didn't seem to be a resolution.
At the top of all my Office applications there are vertical bars of color
which fade as you move left to right on the screen. This is not the active
(or inactive) title bar or the pull down menus, it is the background of the
horizontal toolbars. The bars are vertical along the length of the toolbar,
maybe a 1/4 inch wide each. I have the display colors customized on my whole
computer, including a color gradient in the title bars (different colors than
the toolbar background). This weird gradient only shows in Office
applications. I have played around with the advanced customization to
absolutely no avail. I have a screen shot, but I'm not sure if I can post it
here.
I have no idea if it's related, but I did start to notice it at about the
same time - the contrast for my fill-in boxes on mapquest.com is almost
completely gone, I can barely see there's a box there. Haven't noticed it on
any other sites or with any other fill in boxes.
I know it's not a big deal, but it's making me crazy!
