Color non-printing characters?

Is there a way to have the non-printing characters have a different color
than the normal text characters?

Only by applying direct formatting or a character style to them, one by one,
after they exist. There isn't any option to make them automatically have another
color. (Unless the other color was something like 50% gray, I'd think it would
be extremely hard to read.)

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I find them quite distracting in the same color,
something like 50% grey I think would be helpful. I guess I'll never know!
('cause I'm not gonna change them all individually :) )
