Color palettes

I have a new iMac with Excel for OS X. I cannot drag the Fill Color
and Font Color palettes off of the toolbar to display them in full,
even though the balloon says I can do this. I was always able to do
this in Excel 98.

Advice is welcome and will be appreciated. Thanks.

Click the Fill Color or Font Color icon. The palette drops down. With
the mouse button held down, hover over the double row of dots at the top
of the palette. When the dots activate (become darker - you may see a
tooltip saying "Drag and release to make this menu float", but don't
drag yet), release the mouse button. The palette is now floating and you
can drag it where you wish.

That works. Thank you, JE. I had tried a bunch of things, but not
that.

Somehow I feel tricked by the words "drag and release" when what they
meant to say was "wait till the dots darken and then let go and then
move the palette around". And you'd think that the answer could have
been found in the help menu. But then again, there probably could be
an entire newsgroup devoted to discussions about the little help guy
and his brain.

Again, my thanks.

I've submitted a bug to MS on this...
