does anyone know if excel has the more granular color
pallet (where you can pick from the color wheel or pick
numbers for RGB) like power point has?

thanks!

Go to the Tools menu, choose Options, then the Colors tab. There,
click Modify.

that's awesome!

but it looks like it you have to set your color choices
here first. is there any way to get the color wheel
option when you are on a particular cell?

No, you can't do that. Excel has a limited pallet of 56 colors,
but you can choose any of the millions of colors to fill that
pallet. You can fill a cell only with a color from the pallet.

I have written a Color wheel translator that converts
colors to rgb, html (hex) decimal, and has preset Pantone
colors. You can also preview your selected colour in a
mini=browser. I actually wrote this program in vb6. For
you it is free.

You can download a copy from

If you would like me to email it to you send me an email
to confirm. (e-mail address removed)
