Colors used by MS Office seem washed out and faded. How to fix?

I have a new XP laptop and loaded Office 2007. The background colors seem
faded and washed out when I compare the same screen on another laptop (also
XP). It causes a problem in knowing where one window starts and another
begins etc when using multiple windows as the ribbon line is faded on both...
