Colours not showing in Excel spreadsheets sent to me by other user

Hi,
I am having a real nightmare with both excel and word not showing colours.
I can create spreadsheets and colour them - fine.
But, when I receive a shared spreadsheet i can't see any of the coloours
filled in the cells.
They print fine but I can't see them on screeen.

I have checked my setting in control panel> accessibility options> display.
The use high contrast check box is UNchecked.
In excel options> advanced high quality mode for graphics has been checked
and unchecked and has made no difference.

This is a real frustration and is causing some major issues for me and my
team.
Can anyone out there help?
