Column and Row labels

Using Excel v.X 10.1.5, on a Titanium G4, under Mac OS X 10.3.2 (Panther),
certain Excel spreadsheets do not display column and row labels. Yes, the
cells themselves are NOT hidden (so I have already checked Preferences, and
the box IS checked). While the boxes are on the sheet, the "A," "B," "C,' etc.,
and the "1," "2," "3," etc., are not displayed in the cells.

Does anyone have a potential reason / solution as to why this occurs, and
how I might correct it?

Thank you.

Is the "Row & column headers" checkbox in the "Preferences" > "View" pane
unchecked? If it is, check it and you should see the headers.

So the "boxes" are there but the numbers aren't? That's weird...A Google
search shows that was reported once before on these groups, but no
resolution was found.

Have you tried cycling the Preferences/View/Row and column headers
checkbox?

Only other things I can think of are either a preferences problem or a
font corruption.

Try renaming your ~:Library:preferences:Microsoft folder (with all
Office apps closed), then restarting XL - if the text comes back,
transfer your Word/Entourage/PPt prefs from the old Microsoft folder to
the new one.

Suspect prefs, in no particular order: Carbon Registration Database,
Office Font Cache (10), Office Settings (10), Excel Settings (10).

If not, restore the old Microsoft folder and troubleshoot your fonts.
