Column names and deletions

I'm converting a spreadsheet from Works to Excel. I have
two questions:

1) Is it possible to name the columns? e.g. name, date,
etc. instead of a,b,c......

2) How can I erase data without erasing the formula?

Both of these are possible in Works.

Thanks,
Larry

You cannot change the column labels themselves. You can use row 1 for your
own headings, starting your data in row 2. You can also give a name to a
column (or any cell or range of cells) by selecting it and then clicking in
the name box (to the left of the formula bar) and typing the name. You can
then use this name in formulas.

You can use Edit > Go To > Special > Constants to select cells containing
constants (data) rather than formulas so that you can clear them all
together, leaving the formulas intact. Is this what you want?
