Column width resize does not stay set

In a Access 2000 database, in the table the user resizes
all of the columns (has dragged and use the Best Fit
option) and then closes and says "yes" to saving the
formatting changes and then when she reoopens it all of
the columns are back to the same default size.
Is there a setting or fix somewhere that will make them
actually save the changes?

No. This is one of the drawbacks of using table datasheets for data
presentation - one of the many drawbacks.

Create a Form instead; a Continuous form can be made to look very much
like a datasheet if you like the appearance, and you're under complete
control of the field sizes.
