Column Width

Word 2003 will not allow me to fix the column widths in tables. The Table
menu "Fixed Column Width" does not work, nor does specifying widths in inches.

Column Width and Table Width can only be set to a 'preferred' dimension. You
cannot set 'exactly' as you can with Row height.

Measurements units by default use the settings in Tools, Options, General
tab. However, you can type in any measurement unit you want regardless of
what is displayed. So if it displays 2.54cm, you can overtype 1.5" and Word
will size the cell to 3.81cm (1.5").
