Hi,

in my document, the column width is : 4.5 (the font standard for excel
is verdana 10)
I give my document to a friend (the font standard for excel is also
verdana 10) by email and in the document the width now is 4.33 .

Why ?

Thanks

Is your friend using a PC? Or does s/he have a font from a different
source? The cell width measurement is based on the width of numeric
characters in the font, so if the fonts vary slightly, so will the width
measurements.

The font... "normal style font" not the font in the cell ?

No we have Macs. I noted two problems : In Excel >Pref >General by
default standard font is Verdana 10 but i don't have this font.
Idem in the "Style Normal" !

The unit for column width is the width of "normal" character but if
the font don't exist or if I did not define a style ?

Thanks

Sorry for my poor english !

If you don't have the font, Office will substitute the "closest" font it
can find. The "normal character" is a digit - nearly all fonts set
digits 0 to 9 the same width so that columns of numbers will line up.

Using a different font almost guarantees that the sheet will look
different/have different widths.

BTW - If you're using XLv.X, you should have the Verdana font in your
Microsoft Office for Mac installation disk - in the Microsoft Office
X:Office:Fonts folder.
