columns are too narrow after paste from excel in word 2002

When a copy is done from part of an Excel spreadsheet and
pasted into word 2000, the format is exactly the same as
it is in Excel. However, when part of an Excel
spreadsheet is pasted into word 2002 (Office XP), the
columns are two narrow and causes most of the rows to
double space - formatting is bad. If the table is
stretched to fix this, the table is larger than it was in
Excel. Is there a setting or something I can do to make
Word 2002 work like Word 2000 when pasting from Excel?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not that I know of, exactly. But there are certainly any
number of options you can try. I'd start by comparing the
result of RTF vs. HTML via Edit/Paste Special. The other
thing I'd look at are the selections in the Paste Options
button Word 2002 should be displaying at the lower right of
the pasted data (if the option is activated in
Tools/Options/Edit).
