columns in same baseline

Hiho.

word:mac v.X doesn't support the feature, that when using pages with
two ore more columns the last line in both columns are in the same
baseline. Of course it's possible to fix the problem with a dirty
workarround. But this is not really a solution.

Will office:2004 support columns with automatic baseline adjustment in
columns?

Hi Friedrich,

I thought there was a preference somewhere to even out columns, but it could
have been in WinWord, though maybe I'll look for it in X later if I have
time. If so, there's a chance it got ported to 2004, but the people who
know are generally under NDA and can't tell you. No idea how sophisticated
it would be anyhow.

Regardless, see John McGhie's comments about typesetting, in his recent
response to your unicode post. Aren't you hoping for a program that will
automatically adjust the spacing between lines to produce an even bottom
line? Sounds like a typesetting function to me. Format | Columns will let
you manually adjust the spacing for each column, it appears.

Hi Friedrich:

Since when? The feature is called "Balance Columns" and is produced simply
by adding a CONTINUOUS section break to the end of the multi-column section.

It's always been there. Check the Help topic " Balance column length for
newspaper columns" and " The newspaper columns will not balance."

They've been there all along, and they will indeed be there in 2004.

Hope this helps
