I have detected some sort of altering process in some of
our excel spreadsheets. It will alter the column headings
from a b c to 1 2 3. I can't seem to find what is causing
this. Once it converts one of our workstations i can't
return it to the right state. Help!

Try "Tools" -> "Options"
go the the "General" tab and uncheck "R1C1 reference style"

Tools > Options menu. Somewhere there's a checked "R1C1 style" box that would neeed a
little unchecking.
