I'd like to create a newspaper style column (as in Microsoft Word) for a hymn
book I'm currently typing. Can I do that and how?

Draw your text box, right-click, click Format text box, Text box tab, columns
button.

You can go to the top of a column Shift+Ctrl+Enter.
