For what application? Some Office applications support custom task panes
prior to Office 2007, some don't. For example, Outlook doesn't.

Nor Word or Excel. They only support the ISmartDocument interface
ActionsPane (2003 and higher).

What you want to do is NOT possible. Custom Task Panes were not available
before Office 2007. The ActionsPane (for single documents) was introduced in
Office 2003, for Word and Excel, only.

You need to work with a toolbar or a UserForm, there is no other choice.

And VSTO Add-ins are also not designed to work with Office XP, only Office 2003
and later. For earlier versions you need to use the Visual Studio Shared Add-in
template.
