Combine excel files

Hi
I have a large number of excel files that are emailed to me and I wan
to combine the first sheet of each excel file into a new excel fil
without opening any of the files. At the minute I have a file merge
program to merge all the files but it hangs unless I open each fil
enable editing and save. Any ideas on a macro to do this?
