Combo Box error

I'm getting an error of "Out of String Space" when I try to use a combo box in a subform. I can select information from the list, but after I do I get the error and after clicking "okay" the value I selected goes into the record. Then when I close the form and open it again, the record is missing. However, if I go to the table that the subform is linked to, the record is there. I tried recreating the subform and the control, but I still get the error. Any idea what might be going on?
