COMException on CommandBarPopup.get_Controls()

David Thielen

Hi;

We have a user running Word 2000 where our AddIn was running fine but
now gets this error on startup:

Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException
Message: Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not
enabled, or of a type that does not accept the focus.
Calling: Microsoft.Office.Core.CommandBarPopup.get_Controls()

Any ideas?

thanks - dave

Hi Dave,

I've seen the same error before but they are all related to JavaScript
trying to set focus on a hidden HTML element.

Could it be any relations here?

Hi Dave,

It is also possible that the UI layout somehow changed (some button
hidden?), so we can also try reset the default UI layout (toolbars and
menus) by deleting the Normal.dot (be sure to backup before deleting), Word
will generate a new one with default settings.

Anyway, without more detailed information, it is hard to find the root
cause.

Is it possible to get the call stack of the exception?
