Comma and macros

is it possible for the macros to addn Comma before “and†in a list of two or
more items? plus Comma should not be present in a list when there are only
two items in a list.

List means :

I have a cat, dog, and a rat.

The comma should not be present before 'and' in that list either.
which should read
I have a cat, a dog and a rat

Well let me rephrase the question as this- say if they user has typed
a cat, dog, and a mouse.

The macros shd correct it as a cat, a dog, and a mouse.

ITs not going to be dog, cat or mouse at all instance. Probably macros shd
read of there are 2 or more words separated by comma then it shd be prefixed
with "a" in this example or the word preceeding cat or dog or mouse.

i m trying to chk for parallesim using macro

There should be no comma before 'and' in such a list so the list doesn't
require correcting.

Hi Sally,

The indefinite article (a or an) is required only before singular countable
nouns that are not preceded by the definite article, a pronoun (for example,
her), and numerous other words. This is fairly complex rule. If you want to
create a macro that will correct "dog" to "a dog," you're going to need some
very complex code that can access a database of all the singular countable
nouns in the English language. Even if this is not beyond the scope of Word
macros, you should know that you will be facing a formidible task.

As for Graham's definite opinion against adding a comma before the serial
and, I would like to add that the practice in the UK is not to add this
comma, but in the US, some very influential authorities, such as the Chicago
Manual of Style and the MLA Style Sheet, say that the serial comma should be
added. Thus, the prevalent practice in US English is to add the serial and.

frequently by listening to the data as they type. These people often need
similar macros which do fast corrections, insertions, etc. There are many
macros and other Word information.
