Command bar problem

In Word, my "Tools" at the top of the command bar only gives me a list
of fonts. It's like the list of fonts simply duplicated itself and
moved to the "tools" commands, replacing the real ones. The "fonts"
right next to it still gives the fonts too. I've gone into "view --
toolbars -- customize" and there, I can see the "tools" commands that
are SUPPOSED to be there, but when I return to a regular Word
document, all I see there are fonts. Can anyone help? Thanks.

The first thing to try is - go back into the Toolbars page of the Customize
dialog, click on the name of the Menu Bar & click the Reset Button. While
there, Control/Right-Click the Tools menu topic itself & choose the Reset
Command listing. See if that corrects the problem after you OK out of the
dialog. If not, post back with *specific* details on version of Word, OS X,
type of Mac, any third party "haxies" (apps that modify either the OS or
programs), etc.

Thanks, but those two suggestions did not work.
I'm using:
Word X For Mac service Release 1
iMac with Mac OS X 10.3.9
I don't believe I'm using any third party applications that would
affect the OS.

I'm afraid I'm not that familiar with the nomenclature for Office X updates,
but if what you have *isn't* updated to 10.1.9 you need this:

<

Once you apply the update it won't hurt to run Disk Utility - Repair Disk
Permissions... in fact, I'd do that anyway.

If you're already updated to 10.1.9 or if applying the update doesn't
resolve it have a look at these two pages in the order listed:
