Command button "click" event in template does not copy to new doc

I created a form template with a command button. When a new document is
created from the template, the command buttons click event code (in
ThisDocument) is missing. WTH? This seems like stupid funtionality. How the
heck do I get my click event code to work in the new document created from
the template?
